This beautiful old book is “The Boy in the Haversack and Other Stories” by Dr. Christian Barth and F. Baul. This was published by Lutheran Augustana Book Concern circa 1860s. The other stories are: The Little Chimney Sweep and The Nurse. This has 4 lovely full page color plates inside and a highly decorative paste-down illustrated cover. The tales are all of a moral nature with the first being of the French Revolution - soldiers invading Austria and a missing baby, the second in England -a kidnapping by gypsies, and the last a tale starting 1800 in France - a murder witnessed by a boy in a hospital for soldiers.
This work is app. 6.5”x5” with 70 pages. This has a decorative paste-down illustrated cover. This is in very good condition overall with some corner, edge, spine wear and bumping. There is some splitting to the red fabric spine as shown. There is some light, old water staining marks along the edges of some pages. The binding is tight and all pages intact. There is age toning. The book is complete and there are no offensive odors.
