The play of light within and without is superb, emoting a moment of serenity and rest. The sense of serenity and peace profoundly captured in this favorite Terry Redlin limited edition print exemplifies why it sold out from the publisher and is only available on the secondary market to collectors. This is a much more desirable first run artist proof, low number 433 of 950. (The limited edition run was 9500). The title is “Pure Contentment” with a subtitle: “A Quiet Evening Spent Painting Decoys & Resting”. It is signed in pencil lower right hand corner; pencil numbering AP 433 in left hand corner, title in center. The images size is 14” by 24”, paper size 18” by 27”, and frame size 32” by 22.5”. It was originally produced for Ducks Unlimited. This sold out secondary market print is very hard to find and secondary sellers are asking $800-1200 unframed. The fine custom framing and matting would cost at least $400-$500 to replace.
The description as provided by the Terry Redlin Museum site: "After a long day the hunter and his dog have returned to their cabin at the lake's edge. While the dog rests outside his master relaxes for a moment after the evening meal. Through the window can be seen several decoys awaiting minor repairs. We can be assured that both dog and man, for this brief time, are experiencing a sense of pure contentment. Across the inlet the farmer, sometimes a hunting partner, is also preparing to retire for the night. Off to the west lights from a small town sparkle along the far shore. And to complete this scene, several flights of Canadas move across the moonlit sky, no doubt signaling that tomorrow will also bring good hunting."
It is custom conservation mounted in a gorgeous grained walnut frame, triple coordinating mats bring out the colors in the print beautifully. The print and the frame are in excellent condition. The paper backing on the back of the sealed frame has a spot in the upper corner of the sealing paper, where it looks like it was laid flat and the very corner of the paper got moistened by a small spill as pictured. There is an envelope attached to the paper with the original certificate and information.
