Deemed as Alaska's most famous artist, Rie Munoz (ree moo-nyos), a Dutch-American, was born and raised in California. She has lived in Alaska since 1951, when she traveled up the Inside Passage by steamship, fell in love with Juneau, and gave herself until the boat left the next day to find a job and a place to live. Her paintings reflect an interest in the day-to-day activities of village life such as fishing, berry picking, children at play, as well as her love of folklore and legend.

"The Caribou Hotel is located in Carcross, Yukon Territory. It's the tallest building in a community of several hundred. The town also boasts a general store, gas station, train station, bar and several churches. It's on the shores of Lake Bennett. The name Carcross is a contraction of Caribou Crossing, owing to the huge herds of migrating caribou that, in the past, crossed the River at that location. Hence also the name Caribou Hotel."
This print is from a long time storage of a retired California couple who had an art gallery and come as new in their original gallery condition unless noted.
