This hand painted - polychrome hand carved carvings are finely detailed, really exquisite. The pair are 13.5" high, both man and woman in late 19th century to early 20th century traditional garb, The man is wearing the garb of a warrior. This style dates to the Dutch Wars of the late 19th century of the Aceh Warriors and also very similar to what the Nias Warriors wore Circa 1920.
The woman is in the 2 part traditional skirt and over blouse worn then and still fashionable. The wood carvings are truly exquisite, the detail amazing, the condition is excellent. The man has a fitted base we will send with the pair, the woman's original set in base is missing.
The photos speak to the fineness of these fine wood carved figures, I have found nothing similar to them. They came from an estate of a couple who traveled through the middle eastern counties in the 1960s-ro 1970s.
