Richly colored Cobalt Flow Blue, this large soup bowl is in the "Oregon" Pattern. It was also called "Chinese" Pattern as it has a Chinese theme. This large flow blue platter is marked TJ&J Mayer Longport (Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire pottery, England) dating mid 19th century (1840-1860. It measures a large 10.5 inches in diameter and has a wide 2" fluted rim. There is no damage, chips or cracks. It does have a couple of stilt marks typical of this pottery as it was stacked in the kilns.
Scarce and absolutely stunning with the contrast of deep white and richly flowed dark cobalt blue, this is one of my favorite patterns. I collect flow blue and can attest to how gorgeous these large soup bowls display along with plates in a wall collection. Can you believe they were once everyday dining ware?!
