Rare and important Historical Staffordshire Transfer ware plate made for the American market after the Revolutionary and War of 1812 by Clews Staffordshire Pottery. The Title of the design is "American and Independence" featuring a bust of President George Washington and Blind Justice with 15 colonies in the ribbon. Circa 1820s. This type of blue transfer with the depth and high clear glass is also called pearl ware due to the whiteness and "pearl white glaze" over the rich cobalt transfer. Very rare, in very fine condition as pictured, no chips or cracks this American Historical Staffordshire plate measures 8.5".

Henry Francis du Pont collected and gathered a large number of Staffordshire Blue transfer ware with American views, buying examples during the 1950s to furnish the Blue Staffordshire Room at Winterthur. A 2013 Live Auction featured a platter in "American Independence" that sold for $1778.
