This gorgeous richly colored Flow Blue huge serving platter is in the "Oregon" Pattern, also called "Chinese" Pattern as it is very Oriental in theme. The flow blue platter is marked TJ&J Mayer Longport (Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire pottery, England). .
Resource: The Potteries (.org) which features the "Oregon" or "Chinese" pattern dating mid 19th century, Circa 1850-1860s, it appears they entered into a partnership with a different mark shortly after.:
"Thomas, John and Joshua Mayer - Earthenware, China, Parian and blue printed ware manufacturers at the Furlong Works and also the Dale Hall Works, Longport, Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent. T J & J Mayer exhibited at the British Exhibitions of 1851, 1853 and 1855. They won a medal at the 1851 Exhibition."
The elongated octagonal deep saucer form of this platter is very characteristic of the late 1850-s to 1880. The cobalt deep blue is brilliant against the deep white of the platter. It is of large size, measuring 17.5" by 14" and in excellent condition. There are factory imperfections in the glaze and one pin prick in the rim which is not damage, just part of the firing of earthenware at that time. Gorgeous and scarce large flow blue platter.
