Pictured in Ruth Webb Lee's "Victorian Glass...Specialties of the 19th Century (1830's-1880s)" this EAPG (Early American Pressed Glass) antique amber glass wall hung match holder is identified as a "Victorian Novelty" by Bryce Bros. Lee notes that these novelties wer produced during the 1870's and 1880s. With a few exceptions the novelties were not carried after the company converged with U.S. Glass in 1891. It is a rich amber with fine detail in the basket weave motif and the rope handle. It is footed so can sit on a counter or shelf also. Very scarce and unusual antique match holder in colored Early American Pressed Glass. It is in fine condition with no damage and measures 3.25" high at the back hanger then tapers to 2.25 to 2 1/8"
