This extremely beautiful late 19th century to turn of 20th century linen long white Christening gown was superbly hand made with the long belled wide skirt featuring rows of flat shirring and gathered ruching. The bodice and sleeps have delicate lace and pearl buttons. It is so beautifully and finely made it exemplifies the importance placed on the Christening of a child, a beautiful family event. This dress is perfect for a child or a doll. It is from my mom's museum collection. One she never got a chance to restore with her magnificent seamstress ability.
It has a couple of small spots as pictured that need lemon and sun to remove (the old time way that works so well without hurting the fine linen), has one L shaped small tear as pictured that needs tiny stitching and one of the ties is missing. The dress really does not need the tie as the bodice is fitted. The one could easily be removed. I have priced it for the small repairs needed. It measures 41-42 inches long with a wide flaring long skirt that makes the dress so stunning in stitching and look.
