Superb Pastel under glass is stunning in its rich characterization of the man and the time, all etched into the face of this warrior titled "Two Hatchets". The painting is all original with original framing. I would suggest the glass being replaced with non glare for maximum effect of this deeply moving piece of art. It is in excellent condition as photographed, measuring 23.25" by 17: image opening, 32'5" by 25" period wood frame. It is signed by the artist in the lower right hand corner and dated (19) '73. OK05
This superb lifetime collection from the estate of an associate and long time friend of the artist Don Prechtel (1937) features outstanding examples of the artist’s early (professional artist since 1968), and mid era work. Well Listed, American Western Artist Don Prechtel is renowned for his historical accuracy, superb detail and character portrayed in his work. Born in Los Angeles, Prechtel has lived in Oregon since 1942. Prechtel had been drawing and painting since he was a child, always favoring the realistic, illustrative style of N.C. Wyeth. “I like to paint story-telling paintings,” he says. “I used to just paint landscapes. But you’ve got to get something in there that grabs you. And I think people want to know about their history.” He contributes much of his time to teaching children the love of art.
