Rare and of historical importance, this 4 piece place setting came down through my client's prominent family. Family heirs received from the William Jennings Bryan estate one place setting of the original large Kozan Satsuma porcelain china set that graced the Bryan table. The beauty, intricacy, and fineness of this set is hard to catch, the set is totally hand painted, each piece an original painting on china.

Absolutely museum quality, this Satsuma set has the Kozan 1868-1912 mark. The historical porcelain china Satsuma set consists of a dinner plate with superb Rooster theme painting, a salad plate with chicken motif, a cup and saucer with bird motifs. Each of the set are painted a bit differently, each an original piece of art as pictured. There is no damage to this important set. The Kozan, possibly Meizan, mark is impressed as pictured both used impressed marks on their Satsuma and Satsuma style exceptional pottery from the 1880s to 1912.

William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) was an American orator and politician from Nebraska. Beginning in 1896, he emerged to dominant position in the Democrat Party. He stood 3 times as the party's nominee for the President of the United States. He ran against William McKinley and was the star of the 1896 Democratic convention with his Cross of Gold speech that favored free silver. He was defeated in his bid to become U.S. president by William McKinley and subsequently lost his subsequent bids for the presidency in 1900 and 1908, He helped Woodrow Wilson to the presidency and served as his Secretary of State from 1912-1914.
