Exquisitely lovely, this large vanity set dates very early 20th century. The vanity set is hand painted Forget Me Not flowers, beautifully shaded and accented in gold. The artist was a relative of my client from a renowned east coast family. The artist signed her china painting with a AC. The large china painted porcelain set consists of 7 pieces, 3 with lids: A round platter measuring 12" by 9.25", a smaller 6" diameter plate, a lovely candlestick measures 4" in height, a vase measuring 8", a covered dish measuring 5" diameter 3" tall, a smaller covered dish 4" wide by 2.5" tall and a covered hair receiver measuring 5" wide and 3" tall. The shapes were used Circa 1905-1910.
Young women were often trained in the art of China Painting and painted items for their hope chest. It is collected as a special type of folk art and very popular with collectors.

As was normal with china painters of the 19th and early 20th century era, white blanks from good porcelain companies were purchased, hand china painted, then fired again. Therefore you will find several different porcelain company marks on the vanity set. In very fine condition with no damage, this vanity set is unusually large and exquisitely painted. A set to be treasured.
