This beautiful vintage piece will make a perfect addition to any cameo collection! The brooch is from the Victorian era, and is circa 1860's to 1870's. The pin features a natural shell cameo set inside a gold filled frame. The carved cameo portrays a young Greek woman wearing a flowing dress and surrounded by a billowing shawl. She appears to be placing a bouquet of flowers atop a pedestal, and is looking back over her shoulder as she does so. There has been some wear to the finer detailing on the carving, but the overall effect is still quite impressive. The shell has a dark mauve color, while the woman has an creamy white hue. The yellow frame is fashioned in a twisted rope style pattern, and the top and bottom are accented with ornate leaves. The backside of the cameo is an empty container with a glass face. The center rotates around via a pair of stick pin hinges, allowing the face of the brooch to display the empty case. The center compartment does not seem to be able to open, however. This piece has a smooth, polished finish, and the brooch fastens securely with a hinge clasp. There is some light tonal discoloration and surface scratching, as can be expected with any antique piece.
This brooch weighs 29.8 grams. The piece measures 1 13/32" (61mm) tall and 2 1/8" (53.6mm) wide.
