This offering is for a c. 1860-1880 continental miniature portrait of a beautiful baby. He is depicted wearing a delicate whitework bonnet and a rich turquoise blue velvet gown. The portrait is meticulously hand painted and is artist signed, although being so tiny, the signature isn't clear. The portrait is finely painted with exquisite, perfectly executed detail and is covered under the brooch’s original glass. The silver filigree frame is a work of art with an extremely ornate design. The back of the brooch is MARKED “800” for continental silver. The brooch has a simple C clasp. The size of the brooch is 2" high x 1 3/4" wide. The condition of is excellent with no damage, wear or other faults. The single insignificant issue is that the pin is slightly bent, but it is sturdy and fits in the C clasp securely. This important brooch will make an excellent addition for a collection of miniature portraits or rare Victorian jewelry. Please contact me if you have any questions.
