This offering is for a 1920’s Baptismal Box from Paris, France —the Church of the Madeleine. This church is located in the large square, the Place de la Concorde, which also houses the Luxor Obelisk. This ancient obelisk was one of the two obelisks that flanked the Temple of Luxor in Egypt. It was gifted to France in 1833 by the Khedive of Egypt. The Baptismal box has an ornate gold foil seal marked “Luxor.” The box acquired from Paris would have held a baptismal certificate and a gift card. The contents are missing as is the usual case. DESCRIPTION: The 5 3/4” 3 1/4” x 5/8” cardboard box is completely covered in a heavy pale blue textured paper in excellent condition. The lid is decorated by the original blue ribbon & bow. The white lace paper that lines the box also appears to be original. The pale gold embossed seal depicts a baby surrounded by ringing bells. The box, trim & seal are in excellent condition and perfect for display. Please contact me if you have any questions. Shipping by First Class Mail is FREE with your purchase. Insurance is optional.
