This 3” high x 2” wide (at its widest point) figural colored wax pear dates to the turn of the century. It was made in Germany as were other wax and spun glass fruit tree ornaments. This miniature pear shaped house was acquired in Ephrata, Pennsylvania some 35 years ago when there were still Christmas treasures to be found. The thick walled wax pear is constructed with a door cut on a side which is attached by a cotton cord at its base. The was pear is highly colored with hues of yellow, red, light and dark greens, etc. The interior of the tiny fruit house has gold and green colors on the “walls' and small pieces of straw. A Christmas angel is the largest figure and she has gold wings. Two tiny wax children are also present, examining objects that were seemingly left by Santa Claus on the floor. A wee brown wagon with wheels, sweets and a red and white mushroom are present. Both arms are missing on the girl and one arm is missing on the angel. Please take note of the complexity of the figures. Each body, head, limbs and clothing had to be colored and the very tiny pieces fused together, as well as other objects in the scene. Consider the patience and skill required to complete such a miniature wax Christmas scene inside the miniature wax pear. I have only taken the piece out at Christmas and am happy to say that the condition is identical to the time it was acquired. This is the only Christmas miniature fruit house I’ve ever seen. It is extraordinarily rare and will make an important addition for an antique Christmas collection. Now that the summer heat has gone it is a good time of year to ship the precious piece.
