This offering is for a 20" tall early 1079 bisque head doll made by Simon and Halbig for the French Market. Her eyebrows nearly meet which appealed to the French “bebe” collectors at the turn of the century. 1079 dolls made for the American market had eyebrows that were painted further apart. The back of this girl’s bisque head is marked “ SH 1079/DEP/Germany" and also has the red German stamp. The head is made of fine pale bisque with naturally blushed pink cheeks. There is a tiny rub (smaller than an eraser on a pencil) that is easily overlooked. Her large almond shaped stationary brown eyes are gorgeous and have both upper and lower hand painted lashes. There are hand painted red eye corner and nostril dots. Dolly has an open mouth that shows four upper teeth and lips that delicately form her demure smile. Her pierced ears are free of damage and she wears white faux pearl earrings. She wears an older finely made thick synthetic brown wig with auburn highlights. It is glued to the pate. It is beautifully styled and is decorated with a colorful pink & white ribbon woven in the hair. The bisque head has no factory flaws, chips, cracks, restoration or any other issues.
BODY—The doll’s original composition and wood ball jointed body is in good condition. Most of the body has its original paint, but the hands have been artfully re-painted. The torso retains its heavily varnished finish, so it is darker than the arms and legs. The lower portion of the buttocks was re-painted a darker color than the rest of the torso. “GERMANY” is clearly stamped in red on the right side of the buttocks. There is typical wear on the joints and the stringing is good. Overall, this German body is very sturdy and has no issues that require attention.
ATTIRE — The vintage dress worn by the doll is made of a light weight linen type fabric that is colored salmon pink. It has elbow length slightly puffy sleeves. The oval shaped open neckline has gathered fabric for a fitted bodice. The waistline is finished and the skirt has soft folds and a wide hemline. It closes on the back with small white MOP buttons. There are several tiny light brown colored stains — mostly on the skirt. They are shown in the photos. They appear to be related to age and storage conditions. The undergarments consist of pantaloons and a pretty old petticoat. Her socks have a pink stripe and her older white shoes have silver colored buckles. The doll comes from a non-smoking home.
