Early 20th Century Black Cloth Doll, Embroidered Features, Curly Black Yarn Hair This offering is for a superb c. 1920’s black rag doll made of black sateen material stuffed with cloth. The shape of the body is a bit unique because the lady’s abdomen is so full it protrudes which causes the skirt to rest on the wide bump. Maybe this doll is pregnant which would explain "the bump." As it is, this unusual appearance just adds to the character of the doll. The doll’s facial features are fully hand embroidered with no loss of thread. Black knotted yarn hair covers the doll’s head. She wears an early red kerchief that ties under her chin. Her dress is actually a blouse and a skirt sewn onto the body. The blouse is a spice colored heavy coarse cotton material with an odd green and white pattern. The full skirt is brown with the same pattern as the blouse. I believe that her colorful skirt and blouse were made of material from flour or feed sacks commonly used for clothing in the 20's. Her undergarments are made of polished cotton that has darkened a bit over the years, but there are no stains. Her red colored “shoes” are made of a red coarse material that is sewn onto the bottom of the feet, each with a small point. The condition of the doll is excellent. There are a few very small dark stains that show on the front of the blouse, but otherwise the doll has no rips, tears, stains, holes, loose parts, or mends. She comes from a smoke-free home. This doll has been treated to excellent care. She is very sweet, displays beautifully and is fully guaranteed to meet your expectations. Please contact me if you have any questions.
