This exquisite sterling silver enameled vinaigrette is extraordinarily rare and in all original excellent condition. It is shaped as a puffy heart, measures 2 3/4” x 2 3/4” x 1” and weighs 3.7 oz. / 105 grams. It dates to the early years of the 19th century. The exquisite Viennese enamel scenes depict the leisurely outings of members of the aristocracy. The top features beautifully detailed cupids, and a clock tower. The condition of this portion is excellent with only a few surface scratch marks (please refer to the photos). The lid portrays three youthful couples enjoying a leisurely sunny day in the countryside. No wear is present on the lid. The base depicts a countryside scene in which a boy on bent knee offers flowers to a pretty girl. A man in the background carries a butterfly net. The single imperfection is tiny area of wear on the side of the boy’s face. The sterling fittings are aged with a rich patina and a delicate impressed pattern. The clasp opens easily and shuts securely. The silver interior is heavily gilded on the surfaces and the grille. There is no wear to the gold except along a few interior edges on the grille. The interior rim is stamped with hallmarks I’m unable to properly see even with magnification. They are somewhat obscured by the heavy gold. It is obvious that this vinaigrette is of Museum Quality. It will make a very important addition for a collection and is fully guaranteed to meet your expectations.
