This brass railroad switch lock key is stamped "WP RR" on the front, standing for the Western Pacific Railroad Company. It is made of cast brass, typical size, and is 2-1/4" long.
The reverse of the key has the maker's name (Adlake) and nothing else.
The Western Pacific was founded in 1903 to break the monopoly some railroads had on transportation into northern California. In 1983 it was taken over by the Union Pacific, so this key dates to somewhere in that period of time. This is a scarce and valuable key.
CONDITION-Fine. The key has not been cleaned and has original old brass patina on it. It was a rather rough casting, not sanded down before stamping the name like some railroads did. It shows a little pocket and usage wear and has no bends, or nicks. It is mellow and original looking. The railroad name is well struck, making a nice display piece.
I am offering several other marked switch lock and Caboose keys. If you buy several items from me I can combine shipping charges to save money- Ruby Lane cannot automatically do this, so wait until you get a combined invoice from me before paying.
