Circa 1940’s, French, Lucien Lelong, Clear Glass, Face Powder / Trinket Jar.
Lucien Lelong was a French couturier who was prominent from the 1920s to the 1940s. Lucien Lelong was born in Paris, France in 1889. At the age of 22, Lelong attended the Hautes Etudes Commerciales in Paris. In 1914, he had designed his first complete collection. In 1924, he began experimenting with fragrances. Lucien Lelong's first perfumes were named A, B, C, J, and N. The perfumes were intended to evoke a sense of mystery and romance. Many of the intricately crafted bottles were designed by Lelong. He was inspired by fabrics, garlands, feathers and modern architecture. Lelong created 27 different fragrances. During his career, he showed 110 collections. In 1948, Lucien Lelong became ill and he decided to close the doors to his couture house. His perfume business continued production into the 1970's. He will be remembered as fashion's leading diplomat during the German siege on Parisian couture.
