This 1940 Korda necklace, bracelet and brooch is the Thief of Bagdad set made by Rice Weiner to coordinate with and promote the release of the 1941 movie based on the Arabian fantasy One Thousand and One Nights. This elaborate set is a multi dimensional creation with champagne faux pearls, blue rhinestones and enamel accents that contrast beautifully with the pewter tone base metal. This is a rare set mentioned in several jewelry books including Harrice Miller's Costume Jewelry, page 115, and Masterpieces of Costume Jewelry by Ball and Torem, pages 118 and 119, and Brunialti's American Costume Jewelry Art and Industry Volume 2 and Collecting Rhinestone and Colored Jewelry by Maryanne Dolan, page 323. The necklace measures 16 inches, the non chain portion measures 8 inches and includes the round centerpiece that measures 2 inches in diameter. The bracelet measures 7 1/2 inched by 1 1/4 inches and has a safety chain that I am not sure is original. The brooch is a marvel in size and substance and measures 3 1/2 inches by 3 inches. I consider the condition of this parure to be vintage wonderful, with some age appropriate wear, nothing distracting and to be expected in jewelry that is approaching 80 years old. Each piece is signed Korda Thief of Bagdad and everything looks original with no missing rhinestones or pearls. It took me years to put this set together, and I love everything about it, the extravagant design is impressive and commanding, it's a stunning suite of vintage costume jewelry as well as an historical treasure of movie memorabilia.
