This Paden Pottery service for 4 depicting an antebellum plantation house with a black horse and carriage in the foreground and moss laden trees and grey clouds in the background is reminiscent of Gone With The Wind and just as engaging. This hard to find pattern has a red trimmed border on a white background and the red repeats accenting the graphic design beautifully. This 16 piece set includes 4 dinner plates measuring 9 3/4 inches in diameter, 4 salad or dessert plates measuring 6 1/4 inches, 4 cups measuring 4 inches by 1 3/4 inches and 4 saucers measuring 5 3/4 inches. The pieces bear The Paden City Pottery Co. Made In U.S.A. mark and the factory smokestack symbol and D 53, which may indicate the production year as 1953. This set is in excellent vintage condition with no issues to report. Paden City Pottery Company was established in 1914 at Paden City, West Virginia. The company was very innovative and quite successful, even throughout the Depression, and they exhibited their wares at the 1938 World's Fair. The company closed in 1963. I've enjoyed this festive set for decades and it's time to let it grace another table.
