This Art Deco blue transferware tureen was made by Rialto Ware the British Art Pottery Company that operated in the Fenton district of Stoke on Trent England from 1920-26. The deep blue colors and the intricate pattern that combines the arcs and parabolas of Art Deco design with the leaf and flower elements of Art Nouveau design are so appealing in contrast to the ivory background. The finial, handles, base and rim have gilt accents that add to the beauty of the piece. This covered dish is in wonderful vintage condition, with only age appropriate wear. There are no chips or fleabites and the gilding still looks very good. There is some crazing and there are two hairlines that can be seen on the underside of the lid that have never been a problem. Pictures have been taken of all four sides and the top and bottom and underside for your inspection. The base of the piece bears the British Art Pottery Co. Rialto Ware stamp and the number 638 hand written in gold. This measures 11 inches handle to handle and is 5 inches in height. This tureen has not only enhanced my blue collection for a very long time, it has also graced my dining table. Very well priced, this excellent accent piece will add a touch of the whimsy of days gone by to your decor.
