Charming 13-inch leatherhead doll by American doll maker Franklin Darrow, circa 1860’s. Unusual molded painted leather shoulder head with modeled bodice and original paint. Jointed cloth body and leather-like lower arms are replaced, as is her lovely costume made in the appropriate style. I love her little blue shoes, carefully handmade.
This is an unusual doll, and the majority of these have little of the original paint remaining. This one is no exception, but the remaining features are still beguiling. Price reflects condition.
