A wonderful cloth doll from Britain’s Chad Valley Dolls, circa 1920s. Adorable Bambina, inspired by the Mabel Lucie Attwell character, is all-original and in very good condition. Made of stuffed velveteen, with jointed arms and legs, and swivel head, this doll stands 14-inches tall. He has a molded felt face with inset blue glass eyes, hand-painted with closed mouth, blushed cheeks, red dot nostrils, long upper lashes and arched brows. His original light brown mohair wig is full and soft, and hides little felt stitched-one ears. His body is tan velveteen, firmly stuffed; with wonderful stitched details including stuffed stitched fingers and toes, and dimpled knees. Tagged on the sole of his foot, as shown.
He is wearing his complete original costume: off white cotton shirt with front button closure, blue felt short pants with matching suspenders buttoned front an back, red felt jacket with blue felt “buttons”, red felt shoes with buttoned ankle straps and red felt bucket cap. All in very good condition, clean with bright colors. There is one small hole at the back of his jacket (see close-up photo), a few very tiny holes (too small to photograph) at the seams on the top of his cap, and the strap on his left shoe is held closed with a very tiny glass-head pin. He has one small worn spot between the first and second fingers of his left hand. His legs have light surface soil.
This doll displays beautifully and is all-original, circa 1920s.
