In 1972 the Vogue Doll Company was purchased by the Tonka Corporation which continued to manufacture the Ginny doll in Hong Kong. Tonka issued a series of Ginny dolls from Far-Away Lands in outfits representing 16 countries. The dolls sadly did not spark the imagination of little girls and by 1977 the Vogue line of dolls were sold again.
During this time (1972-1977), Ginny from Far-Away Lands had many interesting, colorful, intricate and rare outfits. The Ginny outfit that is available for your consideration is the second version of the Spanish costume which was made available in 1975. The “New Spain” outfit (#301852) consists of red dots on a white cotton fabric with ruffled cap sleeves and a layered ruffled skirt. The red faux suede bodice is accented at its neckline with a lovely red flower with a yellow center. The dress closes in the back with a smooth round snap. The tag is attached and reads Made In Hong Kong in red lettering. The lightly played-with dress would be a delightful addition to Ginny’s wardrobe.
This lovely dress can be viewed on page 163 of the Collector’s Encyclopedia of Vogue Dolls: Identification and Values by J. Izen and C. Stover.
Note: All dolls, stands and dress forms that are used to display the items are not included in the sale.
