This is an amazing Circa 1880 watch by renowned Swiss watch maker Jean Francoise Bautte ( 1772-1837). He was the founder in Geneva of the most complete factory of 300 workers at the time with the production of movements, watchcases, dials, jewellery and automatons. With Europe's Royal Families amoung his clientele he opened branches in Paris and sales outlets in Florence as well as Turkey, India and China. His son Jacques Bautte (1806-1885) and is son-in-law Jean-Samuel Rossel (1799-1881) ensure the continuity of the factory, then run by his grandson, jacques Rossel (1824-1896).Buatte was a high end Geneva watch retailer, the Swiss term is "etabilisseur". This is an exemplary example of the quality produced by this watch maker. It is a beautiful acid tested 18K case with a lovely enameled scene of a young woman in a garden setting. The bow shaped brooch is also 18K while the connecting chain acid tests 14K. This is a key wind watch that is working perfectly and keeping excellent time which is a testiment to the quality of this Geneva watch maker. Everything is in excellent original condition with the exeption of a few age lines on the enamel face which is expected and commiserate for the age of the piece. This key wind watch also retains the key. It is believed that the bow brooch and chain were added at a later period and can be removed. This is a very fine example from an elegant bygone era.
