This is a fantastic find. It was purchased from the estate of a very avid American Indian collector from Santa Barbara. This is a beautiful example of the artistic quality of early Navajo silversmiths. This concho belt is museum quality. It consists of nine hand crafted acid tested high quality 900 silver conches including the buckle. Each silver conch has a very early natural turquoise medallion in the center with the buckle encompassing two natural turquoise medallions. The belt is a very early leather belt and measures 36" from the tip of the buckle to the end of the leather strap where the buckle would attach to the leather. There are two small places on two different silver conches where there have been very small and old repairs, please refer to photos. This is mentioned only for accuracy and in no way diminishes the quality of this piece. There is also a small piece of leather missing from where the buckle would attach where it originally may have been slightly larger than 36". The 5 larger silver conches including the buckle measure 3" by 3 1/2" and the 4 smaller ones measure 1 3/4" wide by 3" tall. The leather belt is 3" wide so the silver conches encompass the entire belt creating a very dramatic effect. This is a very early and desirable piece of Native American history which is guaranteed to be native Navajo Indian Circa 1890 to 1910. This is a fine and rare example that would be a significant addition to a native American Indian collection.
