This is a very early brooch from the late Victorian / Art Nouveau Era. It is Circa 1890 and acid tests 14K yellow gold. Set in the center of the design is a beautiful oval banded agate with a deep translucent red color when held to the light and a natural soft white band across the center. It is accented on four sides by small banded agates that are set in a gold design reminiscent of a fleur de lis. It is also set with 20 beautiful accent pearls. On the reverse is a locket with the original glass and gold insert. The brooch measures 1 1/2" at the widest part by 1 1/4" and is in excellent original condition.
