This is a rare and enchanting antique time piece. It was created by Didisheim Goldschmidt Fils & Cie, a Swiss company founded in 1860. This is an exceptional example of the fine craftsmanship from this company during the Art Nouveau Period. The clock lifts out of the stand and the music box plays. Both the clock and stand are a gilt metal called La Timbale Enchantee which translates to The Enchanted Drum. It is a musical dresser clock in the form of a drum with the hemispherical clock resting in a basin mounted on three bamboo style crossed legs. The enamel face with a black Arabic Numeral dial is surrounded with a hand painted scene of two winged cherubs in a heavenly landscape with laurel wreathes. The crystal has a very tiny rim nick to the left of the numeral 12 which can be seen in the photos. The clock is in running but may need a time adjustment, otherwise in excellent original condition. The music box has the key and is in working order. Signed on the side of the clock and back of the stand is Didisheim-Goldschmidt FIls & Co. Swiss, Fab. Suisse Metal Dore. The back of the stand is further inscribed La Timbale Enchantee fab. suisse metal dore. It stands approximately 3 3/4 inches tall, by 3 inches wide and 3 inches deep. The music box inside the clock is wound with the key. This clock is a 24 hour clock and is in running condition. The music box works crisp and clean. There is an example of this rare clock in the permanent collection of the Museum Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. This is a lovely quality timepiece from an elegant bygone era.
