This is a very beautiful piece in a rare large size. It is a lady's Circa 1880 Victorian Era Dresser Box that could also be utilized as a jewel casket. The porcelain cover has what appears to be a wedding scene between a medieval French knight and his lady. They are in a boat covered with flowers and a swan with a contingent of followers in the background. In the center of the box is a portrait of a lady of the court. Around both the cover and the box are swirled enameled designs with jewels. The box is pale yellow at the base leading to a salmon color in the center and onto the cover with a very pale white surrounding the central image of the cover. The box is attached to a beautiful brass footed base with ornate scrolls. It measures 6 1/4" tall and 5 1/4" diameter at the widest part of the cover. The hinge and clasp work crisp and clean and the box is in excellent original condition. It is very unusual to find these vintage boxes in such pristine condition and this is a fine example of an elegant bygone era.
