This is an outstanding one-of-a-kind picture frame. It is Circa 1860/1870 and Japanese in origin. It has a beautiful and unique carved bone floral motif. The flower in the center and the vine and leaves are all raised and very visual and dimensional in depth. In the lower left corner is the moon inset in Mother Of Pearl which offsets the Mother Of Pearl rectangular design at the top of the frame. To the right, standing alone, is a raised butterfly heading towards the main flower. All of this raised floral motif is in carved bone. The frame has an intricate carved border, however I am not sure of the origin of the wood. The front of the frame is also wood, possibly ebony. The photos appear to be original and can be removed and replaced from the back, please refer to photos. The frame measures 25 inches tall and 10 inches wide. The condition for the age is excellent showing only minimal wear. The the right top side of the top photo there is a small age line in the wood along with a few minor spots and a small chip to the wood front which is mostly under the frame and to the right of the bottom photo. This is normal wear for this piece which otherwise is in excellent original condition and in no way distracts. The carving of the bone flowers along with the overall design is a credit to the artist. This is an exquisite frame which is truly a work of art and a fine investment.
