This is a very beautiful example of early Ridgway. It is signed on the base W. Ridgway Son & Co. and dated September 1, 1840. An intricately raised design depicts two jousting knights on horseback each with an attendant. There is an ornate grape & leaf design around the base. The handle is also elaborate and beautifully executed. The pewter hinge and lid are perfect. It stands 6 3/4 inches to the top of the handle and 4 1/8 inches at the widest part of the body of the pitcher. This is in amazing condition for the age of this piece and would make a great addition to your collection.
