This is a very beautiful example of early Rookwood. It is a 10 inch vase measuring 4 3/4 inches across the widest part of the body of the vase. There is an elegant Art Nouveau floral design that encompasses both the front and back of the vase. What is a most striking accent to the piece is the unusual silver overlay design. This lovely vase has the most exquisite subtle coloring which was typical of the quality pieces produced by Rookwood. This piece is fully signed on the base. This example dates 1900 with 14 incised flames. The most recognized logo in Rookwood history is the backwards R and P. This logo was used on virtually every piece of Rookwood produced from 1886 until the end of production in 1967. Between 1886 and 1900 one additional flame was impressed around the logo for each year; such that in 1900 fourteen flames surrounded the Rookwood trademark. This fine face is in excellent original condition showing only a very few tiny surface marks as seen in photos which would be commiserate for the age of this piece. This is a great example of fine American pottery from an elegant bygone era.
