Rare Antique J.W.Tufts Boston Figural Bicycle Napkin Ring Holder
In the past 47 years of being in the antique business, I've handled many interesting napkin ring holders but never one as exotic as this one. This is Circa 1870/1880 and signed J.W.Tufts, Boston, Triple Plate. It is a Chinese gentleman riding a high wheel bicycle and holding a round barrel on his back suspended by a chain around his shoulders. It measures 6 inches to the top of the barrel and the base is 3 5/8 inches by 2 1/2 inches. This piece has a lot of character, even one foot is on the pedal of the bicycle while the other foot is suspended in mid air while the petal comes around. It is fully signed on the base, please refer to photos. This has tarnished which is indicative with the age. I prefer it with the original patina and will not polish it. This came straight from an estate of an old established San Francisco family dating back to the mid 1800's and is in excellent condition.
