Here is a beautiful antique book. The book features a treasury of well-known poems arranged and illustrated by Susie Barstow Skelding. It was printed by White, Stokes, and Allen in New York in 1883. Susie Barstow Skelding (1857-1934) was an American botanical artist, illustrator and author. She is perhaps best-known for her Flower Songs Series, in which she created illustrations to accompany poems by well-known American poets.
The book is generously illustrated with gorgeous color plates featuring the flowers from the various poems. Each plate has a tissue cover. There are 132 pages. We feel the book is in very good condition considering the age. The first few pages have come loose from the binding. There is some foxing or staining here-and-there in the book. The cover corners and spine show some wear.
There is a lovely inscription on one of the first blank pages: "To my Dear Wife: Christmas Greetings. 1883. Albion."
We are not book experts, though we appreciate and collect treasures such as this. Please have a look at the photographs provided and ask any questions that you have.
