We are offering a lovely vintage compact. It is a military piece, probably given to the sweetheart of a US Army Air Corps serviceman. The compact is goldtone with two compartments inside. The larger compartment holds loose powder. There is no puff or applicator present. The smaller compartment holds rouge and has the puff or applicator. There is a mirror inside the top. The outside of the compact is cream colored enamel with a Prop & Wings badge on top and a plain back. The edges are goldtone and the compact opens by depressing the apple green bakelite latch.
We do not find a manufacturers name although there is a mark inside which reads: "PATENT 1802796 MADE IN U.S.A.". Our research tells us the patent refers to the compact closure mechanism and was issued April 28, 1931.
The compact measures approximately 3-1/4"L x 2-1/4"W x 3/8"D. It is in very good condition.
