This is a rare souvenir spoon featuring the "BAY OF SAN DIEGO. FROM POINT LOMA.". The scene in the bowl of the spoon is nicely detailed with boats in the water, Coronado, and mountains in background. The handle of the spoon is decorated with poppies, the California State Flower. The spoon is marked: "STERLING" on the back of the handle and also has the maker mark of a large "S". We have determined this most likely represents the Shephard Mfg. Co., Melrose Heights, MA, circa 1893-1923. They were specialists in making souvenir spoons. The other possibility is Victor Seidman Mfg. Co., Brooklyn, NY, circa 1920-1930.
This lovely spoon measures approximately 5-1/8" long and weighs 17.2 grams or 0.61 ounces. It is in very good condition with patina as found.
