Here is a lovely set of vintage Majorica pearl earrings in their original box. They have never been worn and still have the original tags and price attached. Majorica is the brand name of imitation or simulated pearls made by Majorica, S.A. (a Spanish registered company) on the Spanish island of Majorca in the Mediterranean since 1890. Majorica pearls have a closer resemblance to natural pearls, than any other type of imitation pearl.
The earrings are made of 925 STERLING with 18 K gold overlay. They have 14K posts with silver push-on backs. The earrings feature a very large single oval pearl fixed dangle. Each pearl measures approximately 5/8" X 1/2" and each earring measures approximately 1/3/8" long from the post to the bottom of the pearl.
The original hang tag retains the original price sticker of $89. Today's prices for earrings of this quality appear to sell for much more. The set also includes the original hinged red leather box with ecru silk lining and velvet insert. The box has a push-in catch and measures approximately 3" square x 1/1/2"H. The earrings and box are in excellent condition. There is a small amount of tarnish to the vermeil surfaces.
