For your consideration, we have a beautiful scarf for a lady. The scarf is signed: "A.R. VALENTIEN".
A. R. Valentien was an artist of the Arts and Crafts period who first made his name as a decorator at the Rookwood Pottery in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he worked from 1881 to 1905. At Rookwood, he created many beautiful pottery pieces featuring designs from nature, such as flowers and birds, and his signed vases are still sought after by collectors. He was commissioned by Ellen Browning Scripps to catalog and paint "Wildflowers of California" from 1907 -1925. He died in 1925 and the unfinished work was donated to the San Diego Natural History Museum.
This lovely scarf was one of Valentien's designs. It features mauve and white orchid flowers on a black background. There is a dusty pink border and the scarf hem is hand rolled and stitched. It measures approximately 35" square.
The original owner from whom we purchased this piece, bought it from the gift shop at the Museum here in San Diego. Very good to excellent condition!
Gender: Female, Age Group: Adult, Color: black, mauve, white, Size: 35" square
