We are pleased to offer a wonderful antique wood box. The box features incredible micro-bead pictorials on each of the four sides as well as the top. The beadwork samplers are mounted under hand cut octagonal mats. They are displayed under glass, inside raised, wooden "frames" on each of the sides and the top. There are florals, structures, trees and a sailing ship and they are beautifully executed.
The top opens up on brass hinges and at one time was able to be locked. Inside the box there are three lift out wooden compartments. Two compartments are divided in half, while the third is open. The box measures approximately 8-3/4"H x 7-1/2"W. The wood appears to be oak.
The box has a decorative square base and four feet. The top is slightly bowed or warped and does not rest completely flat. There is no key for the lock. Everything else about the box has been well preserved.
Circa 1880, possibly older. It could have been used to house almost any items of value or importance to the original owner such as jewelry, sewing implements, mementos, etc. This piece could be called folk art or tramp art.
