F. Earl Christy was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1882. The "F" is believed to stand for "Frederic". At age 17, he painted originals for the Boardwalk Atlantic City Picture company, with many of his early works published by the J. Hoover and Sons Calendar Company of Philadelphia. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Arts from 1905-1907. He never married and lived most of his life with one or both of his sisters. He passed away on Long Island, New York in 1961.
We are offering a wonderful vintage print, possibly a chromolithograph, by Christy. It features a beautiful woman in a shear gown holding an adorable child. The colors are lovely and strong. We see no tears or stains. The image measures approximately 9-3/4" x 7-1/2". It is housed in a narrow black frame from the period, circa 1920's. The frame is fairly heavy for its size. The art measures approximately 10-1/2" x 8" as it was found. There is glass covering the image.
We have had the backing replaced by an expert framer, as the original was torn and only partially intact. Our framer also retained the original framer's label which now resides on the new acid-free backing. It reads: "E. Howard Clark, Westerly, RI, Pianos, Stationery and Picture Frames". There is also a new wire hanger on the back. We believe everything else about this piece is original and from the Art Deco era, circa 1920-1935.
