Here is a lovely antique porcelain or bone china fairing match holder and striker. The script or caption on the front of the base reads: "Ready to start". We believe this piece is German and features a charming young lady dressed in a pink coat with delicate blue and white trim and bows. She has blue eyes, blond hair and rosy cheeks. She keeps her hands warm inside her muff and wears a blue and white hat with ties and a feather plume. Her satchel sits open next to her and rests on top of a large box with ribbon tie. The satchel is the match holder and the back of the box has the striking surface.
The underside of the base has an impressed mark of what appears to be a shield with a crooked arm holding a dagger. From our research, this is the mark of Conta and Boehem Porcelain, circa mid to late 1800's. The numbers: "4103" and "160" are also impressed on the base. This wonderful figure measures approximately 5-3/4"H x 3-1/4"W x 2"D. It is in very good condition with nice detail.
