We are pleased to offer this charming and very collectible miniature advertising hand mirror. This piece may be small in size but it has wonderful detail!
The little mirror is silverplate with an overall Art Nouveau design. The mirror was made by Whitehead and Hoag who were in business from 1892 to 1921. This company made many different types of advertising, political, and fraternal items.
The mirror portion of this piece is round. The handle is what we would describe as an elongated tear drop shape.
On the decorated side of the mirror there is an image of an old stove or range. Above the stove reads: "PRINCESS NOVELTY". Underneath the stove reads: "REQUIRES NO BLACKING - HANDSOMEST RANGE MADE". Below that writing reads: "FOR HANDSOMEST GIRL SEE OTHER SIDE"! At the bottom, in very tiny letters it reads: "THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK N.J.".
On the mirrored side the writing on the handle reads "DUPLICATE MIRROR SENT FOR 10c STAMPS", "ABRAM COX STOVE CO. PHILA.".
All of the lettering and the image are raised or embossed. It measures approximately 3-7/8"L x 2" diameter. Wonderful condition overall with a tiny bit of wear to the mirrored surface. A truly terrific collectible!
