We are very pleased to offer a beautiful vintage heart pendant, which can also be worn as a brooch or pin.
This lovely piece was made by Hobe and is signed on the back in a silver cartouche: "STERLING, Hobé, PAT'D". Although not completely visible, the maker's label is also marked with the word "DESIGN", in front of the PAT'D, but is mostly worn off.
Hobe was founded by William Hobé in New York in the 1930's. William Hobe immigrated to the U.S. from France where his family made fine jewelry for generations. Hobe jewelry was used in showgirl costumes in the Ziegfeld Follies as well as in many Hollywood movies. Hobe produced high quality jewelry for upscale stores, often using semi-precious stones.
This wonderful piece of Hobe Sterling jewelry is actually two separate pieces. The large heart, which is set with a beautiful lavender amethyst stone, can be worn attached to the smaller heart component or detached and worn separately as a brooch. When it hangs as a pendant, it has movement. The pendant/brooch is decorated with applied flowers, leaves and ribbons. The smaller heart, which serves as the decorative bale if being worn as a pendant, is decorated with an applied bow, flowers and leaves.
The large heart measures approximately 1-5/8" H x 1-1/2" W. The heart shaped amethyst stone measures approximately 5/8" H x 1/2" W. The smaller heart bale measures approximately 1" H x 1" W. The overall measurement is approximately 2-1/2" H x 1-1/2" W and the weight is 25.3 grams or 0.890 ounces.
We have not done any polishing or cleaning of this piece since so many collectors prefer the aged patina of sterling silver. We can see a tiny bit of old polish residue which can be removed. This is a wonderful old piece of Hobe jewelry in good condition. There is a slight bend to the pin on the back of the brooch which does not affect its functionality.
