We are offering this unusual antique brooch. The centerpiece of the pin is a fairly large rectangular, bezel set, hand faceted genuine carnelian stone of dark color. On either side of the carnelian stone there is a single houndstooth pearl. On either side of the pearls is a single round genuine garnet.
The gold plate setting features a rope and flower design border. There are small "crowns" above and below the carnelian. All in all, this piece has a lot going on and is quite intricately decorated.
On the back there is a tube and barrel clasp and extended pin, housed in a simple old "C" clasp. From the back you can see how well this pin is constructed.
The brooch is signed or marked on the straight pin with a left facing feathered arrow and an "M" above. The marks are difficult to see and we have not been able to fully research their meaning or designation.
The brooch measures approximately 1-3/4"W x 1-1/4"H and is in good condition. Under magnification there is some wear to the gold plating. This is a rare and unusual piece with great workmanship.
