We are very pleased to offer a fantastic antique pendant. This piece features a hard stone cameo set in gold fill. The sardonyx cameo is left facing and nicely carved. The cameo is securely prong set and sits inside a gold frame with tiny seed pearls in each corner. The surrounding metal has five straight sides and a curved or half-oval bottom edge. Please see our photographs to get the best view of what the shape looks like. There is fancy gold fill work all around the piece. It measures approximately 1-1/4" L x 1" W.
Suspended from each of the lower back sides are multi-strand tassels. The tassels are very nicely constructed and appear to be all intact. Each tassel measures approximately 1-1/4" long. The front of this piece also appears complete with no missing components.
The back of this beautiful piece of jewelry is nearly as interesting as the front. On each side of the top part of the back there are downward facing watch hooks. We suspect these were used to hang the pendant on a chain. At the bottom of the back there is a single watch hook for hanging a watch, fob, etc. Also on the back is a hand etched banner or ribbon design. When closely viewed under a loupe, it appears there may have been initials or a monogram on the piece which were then concealed within the design. A bit of a mystery!
Overall this fine piece is in very good condition with minimal wear to the gold surface. Circa early 1800's.
