This is a wonderful vintage brooch or pin by Hobe. It is a silver tone African elephant with such appealing charm and character!
This piece is quite substantial and depicts the elephant with raised trunk, walking, tusk, textured body, large ears flapping and a crystal clear rhinestone eye!
Hobe was founded by William Hobé in New York in the 1930's. William Hobe immigrated to the U.S. from France where his family made fine jewelry for generations. Hobe jewelry was used in showgirl costumes in the Ziegfeld Follies as well as in many Hollywood movies. Hobe produced high quality jewelry for upscale stores, often using semi-precious stones.
The pin measures approximately 1-1/8"H x 1-3/4"W and weighs 15.4 grams. It is signed "Hobé © (over the o)" on the back and closes with a secure roll over safety clasp. Great condition and very well made.
