This is a wonderful example of a Victorian Sweetheart Brooch. It is made of "solid silver" (sterling) in the shape of a heart. There is hand work decorating the flat front surface of the heart. It is set with three gorgeous large paste stones inside the center of the heart. The stones are quite sparkly and each measure approximately 1/4" in diameter, prettier in person than in our photos.
This piece is fully hallmarked on the back for Chester, 1897 and the maker's mark "S. B". We believe this mark belongs to the Stainton Bros who made sterling items at the end of the 19th century into the beginning of the 20th century.
The pin closes with a C-clasp. We have not cleaned or polished this piece. The brooch measures approximately 3/4" x 3/4". It is in very good condition.
